Are stocks from the financial sector a good investment?
Asked 5 years ago
Hi, I'm looking for opinions from the more experienced investors/traders. I've opened a trading account and started building on my investment portfolio and I'm wondering if the banking sector holds any chance of making a good profit? Do any of them offer dividend payouts? Thanks in advance.

Yes, choosing stocks from the financial sector is a smart investment decision.
Typically, during any economic downturn, banks will endure steep losses. At the same time, once the market has bottomed out, the financial institutions pretty much lead the recovery.
Profit levels are immense, too. In the second quarter, for example, the Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan and Chase, and Wells Fargo reported a cumulative $24 billion in profits.
There is no harm in adding at least one stock from the financial sector to your portfolio. In fact, it is recommended.
Now, nearly every banking stock pays a dividend or has restarted paying dividends (they were suspended by order the Federal Reserve at the height of the coronavirus pandemic). Plus they will be raising dividends by substantial amounts again. For instance, Morgan Stanley confirmed it would double its quarterly dividends payout to 70 cents.
The only problem right now is buying an affordable stock since many of them are trading at or near record highs.
