What is the best free stock screener to use and the recommended parameters to set?
Asked 5 years ago
Hi all, As I'm new, I will trade on my virtual portfolio whilst researching and gaining technical analysis and fundamental experience. I know eToro does not hold all the stocks, etc. However, I'm sure a lot of people use screeners. Can anyone advise on the best free screener and best parameters to set? Thanks.

If you ask any seasoned or moderate investor, that person will typically point to one of two free stock screeners: TradingView and FINVIZ.
TradingView is perhaps the best for its overall platform. FINVIZ is great for its fundamental screening of stocks.
Of course, the platforms maintained by the big investment houses, like TD Ameritrade and Fidelity, are also great alternatives.
There is nothing wrong with Yahoo! Finance either. MarketWatch is more of a bare-bones outlet.
When it comes to parameters, here are the fundamentals to set and comb through:
- P/E Ratio
- Dividend Yield
- Market Capitalization
- Trading Volume
- Debt-to-Equity Ratio
- Price-to-Book Value
- PEG (P/E ratio divided by the expected five-year growth rate)
