What is a trailing stop loss?

A trailing stop loss changes the stop price at a number of basis points or fixed percentage above or below the market price of your security. It should be noted that your trailing stop loss is only monitored during market hours (9:30 a.m. EST to 4:00 p.m. EST).

For example, if the stock rises five cents, the stop loss would also increase five cents. However, if the investment falls, the stop loss does not get adjusted. If the share price moves up to $10.10, the trailing stop would rise to $10.

Industry experts contend that the best strategy to attain a good percentage in your investment decision would be either 15% or 20%.
