What is the difference between a stock that ends with a "f" or a "vn"?

Asked 4 years ago

I noticed a difference when I tried to buy stock. A stock that ended in "f" is .20 cheaper, but Questrade wouldn't let me buy, but I could buy the "vn". What are the differences between the two and why could I buy one but not the other?

The "F" at the end of a stock stands for a foreign stock - one that is not in the US.

VN can mean Vietnamese stock.

You can invest in foreign stocks through:

  1. Certificates in the American Depository Receipts
  2. Regional Funds
  3. Direct stocks
  4. Mutual Funds
  5. International Exchange-Traded Fund
